SUMMARY:De-escalation: A Strengths-Based Approach
DESCRIPTION:In this training\, participants will learn how to recognize the factors that contribute to escalation in both individuals and situations\, while considering the broader situational context. Participants will explore the hierarchy of the brain and Dr. Bruce Perry’s 3 Rs to better understand why certain individuals or environments may be more prone to escalation. The session will also examine the full cycle of escalation alongside the Window of Tolerance framework. SUMMARY:Child Welfare Coalition Call
DESCRIPTION:Join ICOY and other member organizations on a call to discuss key changes in the child welfare and youth-led arena.\nThe goal is to create a child welfare system that prepares youth to become successful and self-sufficient. Illinois Collaboration on Youth (ICOY) seeks to focus the attention of Illinois’ elected officials in all branches of government on the systematic challenges facing the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and the private agencies that deliver many of the services within their communities.\nWe work continuously with lawmakers and other stakeholders to educate them about the impact of nearly two decades of neglect of this system\, and to advocate for the investments and reforms that are needed to fund and sustain the community-based providers of child welfare services.\nThese calls will take place twice a month and we are asking that all participants register to join.

SUMMARY:Grants\, Funding & Sustainability 101
DESCRIPTION:Grants and funding can feel like a closed system to staff who haven’t navigated it directly. This two-hour foundational training gives participants a shared understanding of how grant funding works\, built around hands-on\, interactive activities. Participants will learn to distinguish between public and private funding sources and apply a simple test for deciding whether a funding opportunity is worth pursuing. The session closes with participants identifying at least one practical next step to apply to a funding opportunity in the year ahead\, along with the foundation needed for deeper sessions on related topics. \n Two continuing education units (CEUs) will be available for participants with active social work and professional counseling licenses (LSW\, LCSW\, LPC\, LCPC). If you would like to request CEUs\, you may do so in the evaluation survey sent after completing this training. SUMMARY:Identity\, Culture and Power: The Ecosystem of Our Lives
DESCRIPTION:This session invites participants to explore the interconnected concepts of identity\, culture\, and power\, examining both their individual meanings and the dynamic relationships between them. Through discussion and reflection\, participants will generate relevant examples that illustrate how individual identities are shaped by cultural contexts and influenced by power dynamics\, while considering the impact of these interactions within their own personal\, professional\, and community settings. By developing a deeper understanding of identity\, culture\, and power as an interconnected ecosystem\, participants will explore how understanding these concepts can remove barriers to connection and mutual care. \nTwo continuing education units (CEUs) will be available for participants with active social work and professional counseling licenses (LSW\, LCSW\, LPC\, LCPC). If you would like to request CEUs\, you may do so in the evaluation survey sent after completing this training.
