Organizational Culture and Cultural Humility

February 18 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

ICOY Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Training Series

Dr. Issac Carter, Moriah Johnson, and Ashley Ritter

Series Summary: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI): Though this phrase is more popular in recent years, many people are not clear on the definition. In addition, more people consider themselves committed advocates for equity but struggle to connect their expanding knowledge to their everyday life. This series intends to meet attendees wherever they may be in their DEI learning and offer a down-to-earth, practical, and relational approach to create an inviting space to learn, engage and grow.

Breaks will be offered throughout the sessions. Each training is provided 2 times, however, registrants are encouraged to attend each training once. Additionally, it is suggested to attend in sequential order, though attending out of order is acceptable.

Session 1: Organizational Culture and Cultural Humility

Dates: February 18th and March 9th

Session Summary: Cultural humility is a process of self-reflection and discovery to build honest and trustworthy work relationships across cultures. It is a lifelong process of self, whereby the individual begins with examining their own culture, beliefs, and cultural identities and then moves to recognize other cultures’ beliefs, values, and identities without judgment or hierarchy. During this interactive session, participants will be guided through several activities (pairs, small group, and large group) to explore their cultural selves, the intersections of identities, and commitments to social change. This session aims to provide a process of knowing, being, and doing that aligns with one’s cultural values with authentic actions, evident in one’s actions professionally and personally.

Please note, if possible, we are asking participants to keep their webcams on to help keep us all engaged!

Four continuing education units (CEUs) will be available for participants with social work and professional counseling licenses.
